Amansala has always understood that real healing happens on more than one level. Alongside our physical fitness programming and nutritional offerings, we've cultivated a rich tradition of ancient healing practices that work on the emotional and spiritual dimensions of wellness. Two of the most beloved: sound healing and cacao ceremonies.
The Healing Power of Sound
Sound healing uses carefully calibrated vibrations to bring the body and mind into a state of balance and deep rest. At Amansala, sessions incorporate Tibetan singing bowls, shamanic drums, and other instruments — each aligned to different energy points in the body. Participants lie in stillness, immersed in sound, and something releases. Guests frequently describe these sessions as among the most profound experiences of their retreat week.
The Cacao Ceremony
Cacao ceremonies are rooted in Mesoamerican tradition and hold particular resonance here in the Yucatán, where cacao has been used as a sacred plant medicine for thousands of years. In ceremony, participants sit in circle, sip ceremonial-grade cacao, and move through a guided process of setting intention, opening the heart, and releasing what no longer serves them. The cacao contains compounds that naturally support the production of feel-good neurochemicals — creating conditions where emotional exploration and personal breakthrough become possible.
The Synergy of Both
When sound healing and cacao ceremony are combined — as they sometimes are during our retreat weeks — the effect is amplified. The cacao opens the heart and deepens receptivity. The sound provides the vibrational container. Together, they create a healing experience that addresses the body's physical, emotional, and spiritual needs simultaneously.
Ancient Wisdom, Modern Context
These aren't exotic novelties we've added to the program to seem interesting. They are living traditions with deep roots in the land on which Amansala sits. We approach them with the respect they deserve — and invite you to experience them with an open mind and an open heart.
